If you want to experience the absolute pinnacle of upscale Southern hospitality mixed with world-class live music, you have to book a table at SOUTH Restaurant & Jazz Club.Located on North Broad Street in the Spring Garden neighborhood, this gorgeous venue is owned by the Bynum brothers (the legendary restaurateurs behind the historic Zanzibar Blue). They have masterfully elevated classic Southern comfort food to a fine-dining level. Their kitchen turns out incredible dishes like buttermilk fried chicken with a hot honey drizzle, rich bowls of gumbo, eastern shore crab cakes, and an unbelievable sweet potato tart. The venue is brilliantly split into distinct spaces. While you can enjoy dinner in the gorgeous main dining room or the outdoor courtyard patio, the real draw is the dedicated Jazz Parlor. With an intimate capacity of just 75 seats, it is designed as a true listening room. It features state-of-the-art acoustics, heavy sound-absorbing curtains, and a layout where every single seat faces the stage. It is the premier room in Philadelphia to catch nationally recognized touring artists and the city's finest local talent playing straight-ahead, contemporary, and Latin jazz.Local Tip: The Jazz Parlor has a strict "listening room" policy, meaning conversation is kept to an absolute minimum during the 75-minute sets so everyone can focus on the music. Also, if you buy tickets to a show, your table is automatically reserved for dinner right inside the club—you do not need to make a separate restaurant reservation! Finally, this is an upscale, elegant spot, so dress to impress.
