Conductor Susanna Mäkelä leads the orchestra through two titans of 20th-century symphonic writing at Symphony Center. This program pairs Sibelius's sweeping Finnish landscapes with Shostakovich's emotionally turbulent masterworks, creating a compelling contrast between Nordic restraint and Russian intensity.
