Conductor Esa-Pekka Mäkelä brings two towering symphonic voices together in a single afternoon at Symphony Center. Sibelius and Shostakovich, separated by geography and era, both mined the depths of human resilience through their orchestral works—expect music that moves from introspection to raw intensity. This is an opportunity to hear these masterworks interpreted by one of today's most compelling conductors, whose approach to both composers cuts through to their emotional core. Whether you're a longtime classical listener or exploring these titans for the first time, this concert offers two hours of profound artistry.
