A space to improvise through three mediums-- “set” scores, Passing Through, and instant composition. A space to feel your way through, so much choice and agency in what you want to do, and practicing how to improvise within a group, creating a composition in real-time. This Workshop… has some ‘dance class’ elements but with the agency to pick your energy output is a space where improvisation is group-oriented says yes to our desires…truly seeing others in the space and reacting to their ideas in real-time explores group dynamics and performativity in a low-pressure environment *Maggie (she/they) is a Chicago-based dance artist who works collaboratively and thrives in multi-media performance spaces. Creating visually arresting worlds, their movement straddles the spectrum between bold washes of athletic complexity and sensitive, individualized details. Maggie’s work foregrounds process as much as product. Their devising practice centers on instant composition and embodiment — inviting performers to engage in real-time decision-making through movement, sound, space, and presence. Chicago collaborations include work with Erin Kilmurry, The Seldoms, INSEKTA, Fever Dream Dance Collective, Amalia Wiatr Lewis, Tina Diaz, Deandra Alaba, and Braden Barnes. Maggie has devised original works for Steppenwolf’s LookOut series, SANCTA, and Northwestern’s Danceworks concert. She is on faculty at Northwestern University and College of DuPage, and a guest lecturer at the University of Chicago, as well as teaching weekly community classes at The Rooted Space.*
