Xasthur — artist
Xasthur is an American musical project known for its contributions to the black metal genre, particularly within the subgenre of depressive black metal. Founded by Scott Conner, also known as Malefic, Xasthur's sound is characterized by its lo-fi production, haunting atmospheres, and bleak, introspective themes. Influenced by early Norwegian black metal acts like Burzum and Darkthrone, Xasthur's music often features layered guitars, ambient synths, and distant, echoing vocals. Over time, Conner shifted towards an acoustic direction, incorporating elements of folk and doom, further diversifying the project's sonic palette.
