The Motels are an American new wave band formed in Los Angeles in 1971, fronted by vocalist Martha Davis. The group became known for their synth-driven pop-rock sound that blended new wave sensibilities with accessible pop melodies, emerging prominently during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Their music drew from punk and electronic influences while maintaining strong hooks and Davis's distinctive vocal delivery. The band achieved commercial success with albums like "Careful" (1980) and "All Four One" (1982), producing radio hits such as "Only the Lonely" and "Suddenly Last Summer." The Motels' sound defined a particular strain of new wave that emphasized production polish and pop accessibility alongside the genre's experimental edge.
