Tangerine Dream is a German electronic music group formed in 1967, pioneering the synthesizer-based progressive rock and electronic music genres. The band's sound is defined by layered synthesizers, ambient textures, and evolving melodic passages, often incorporating sequencers and effects to create immersive soundscapes. Their work was influenced by krautrock and experimental electronic music, and they in turn influenced the development of ambient and electronic music throughout the 1970s and beyond. Key albums like "Phaedra" (1974) and "Stratosfear" (1976) established their signature approach of extended instrumental compositions. The group, led by founder Edgar Froese, remained active across multiple decades with various lineup changes.
