Swans are an experimental rock band formed in 1982 by Michael Gira in New York City. Known for their intense soundscapes, the band's music spans genres including noise rock, post-punk, and later, post-rock and drone. Influenced by acts such as Throbbing Gristle and Joy Division, Swans are characterized by their dynamic compositions, often featuring repetitive structures and a powerful, immersive sonic experience. Over the years, the band has seen numerous lineup changes but consistently centers around Gira's artistic vision.
