Known for their laid-back delivery and funk-infused beats, they helped define the East Coast hip-hop sound of the late 1980s and early 1990s. Drawing inspiration from classic funk and soul artists like Zapp and James Brown, EPMD's music is characterized by its use of smooth samples and clever wordplay. Their debut album, "Strictly Business," is often cited as a landmark in the genre, solidifying their place in hip-hop history.
