Death is an American heavy metal band from Detroit, formed in 1983 by guitarist and vocalist Chuck Schuldiner. The band is widely recognized as pioneers of death metal, helping establish the genre's sonic and aesthetic foundations through their technical approach and aggressive vocal style. Their sound combines complex guitar work, rapid tempo changes, and dark lyrical themes, drawing influence from earlier heavy metal and punk.
