Amorphis is a Finnish metal band formed in 1990, known for pioneering a fusion of death metal and progressive rock elements. Their sound evolved from early death metal toward a more melodic, atmospheric approach incorporating folk influences and synthesizers, particularly following their 1996 album "Elegy." The band draws from Finnish mythology and nature themes in their lyrical content, and their music is characterized by complex song structures, clean vocal passages alongside harsh vocals, and orchestral arrangements. Key influences include progressive rock and metal traditions, with their style helping define the melodic death metal and progressive metal genres. Amorphis remains active and has maintained a significant presence in European metal scenes for over three decades.
