Crotona Park — music venue

Crotona Park is a sprawling, 127-acre public park located in the heart of the South Bronx. Often referred to as the "lungs of the Bronx" due to its dense, beautiful canopy of historic trees—some of which are over a century old—it serves as the largest and most vital green space for the surrounding neighborhoods. The city acquired the land in the 1880s, and its name carries a bit of classical flair. It was named "Crotona" after the ancient Greek city of Crotone in Italy, chosen by a parks engineer who wanted to evoke grandeur and give a nod to the Croton Aqueduct system that supplied the city's water. At the center of the park lies the picturesque, three-acre Crotona Park Lake, a popular spot for birdwatching, catching a glimpse of the resident turtles, and catch-and-release fishing. Another major architectural and historical highlight is the massive Crotona Pool. Opened in 1936, this 330-foot-long Art Deco masterpiece was built by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) under Robert Moses and remains one of the largest swimming pools in the city.Today, Crotona Park is a bustling community anchor. Alongside its nature center and winding trails, it boasts dozens of athletic fields and a world-class, 20-court tennis complex that is home to the Cary Leeds Center for Tennis & Learning, keeping it a vibrant hub for both recreation and local sports.
