Brooklyn Bridge Park

Brooklyn Bridge Park is a stunning, 85-acre waterfront park stretching 1.3 miles along the East River shoreline in Brooklyn. Transforming what was once an abandoned industrial waterfront, the park offers unparalleled, sweeping views of the Lower Manhattan skyline, the New York Harbor, and, of course, the iconic Brooklyn Bridge that soars directly overhead.Built on a series of historic shipping piers (Piers 1 through 6), the park is a masterclass in modern landscape architecture and adaptive reuse. Construction began in 2008, turning crumbling docks and warehouses into a dynamic, multi-purpose green space. The design carefully balances lush, rolling lawns and native gardens with heavily active recreational zones, ensuring there is something for everyone while maintaining ecological sustainability. Each pier has its own distinct personality and purpose. Pier 2 is a massive hub for active recreation with covered basketball courts, roller skating, and handball; Pier 5 features state-of-the-art soccer and lacrosse fields; and Pier 6 boasts expansive playgrounds and a flower meadow. The park also includes the historic, beautifully restored Jane’s Carousel, nestled in the Empire Fulton Ferry section.Today, Brooklyn Bridge Park is one of the city's most popular destinations for both locals and tourists. Whether it is kayaking in the protected embayments, catching a summer movie on the lawn at Pier 1, or simply walking the scenic promenades at sunset, the park has completely revitalized Brooklyn’s connection to the water.
