WHIRLYBIRD — live event

Nashville-based rockers Whirlybird consists of singer Rob Robinson, guitarist Tom Bukovac, bassist Spencer Campbell, and drummer Shawn Fichter -- but Robinson is the quartet's undisputed leader. As a youngster, Robinson and his family relocated several times between Louisiana and Mississippi, as he began learning piano at the age of ten via his older sister. A few years later Robinsonpurchased his first guitar and four-track recorder, immediately taping his own original compositions and playing local clubs (despite being underage). By his early twenties Robinson had moved to Nashville hoping to learn a thing or two about the music biz. He took a job as an intern at the Beacham Agency, booking gigs for such artists as Tim McGraw and Joe Diffie, and eventually forming a band himself, Fearless Freap (issuing a total of three albums during their short career). Robinson set out immediately to form another group, which was when he met the members who would go on to become Whirlybird. 2001 saw the release of Whirlybird's debut album, Black Eye, which Robinson describes as "witty anti-pop with Southern slide soul, a thinking man's rock with a heavy underground ethic."
