Brooklyn Maqam is an organization dedicated to presenting Middle Eastern (in particular, Arabic) music, with the goals of expanding its audience, preserving it as an art form, and building community centered around the music. This month: Majörden Nihavente invites all music lovers to join us for this special event, where we will present traditional Turkish music through our unique interpretations! Majörden Nihavente ensemble will present a selection of exquisite pieces from the rich tradition of Turkish classical music. Our group aims to offer the audience an unforgettable musical experience with unique arrangements inspired by various Turkish makam. Our Repertoire: 1. Gel Ey Deniz’in Kızı (Makam: Acem Aşiran): Acem Aşiran is a makam known for its soothing, deep, and rich tonal structure in classical Turkish music. Gel Ey Deniz’in Kızı is a beautiful example of this makam, taking the listener on an emotional journey with its captivating melody. 2. Sen Gözlerimde Bir Renk (Makam: Rast): Rast is one of the fundamental makams in Turkish music, often evoking feelings of joy, excitement, and a profound emotional impact. Sen Gözlerimde Bir Renk successfully conveys these characteristics of the Rast makam to the audience. 3. Kürdili Hicazkar Longa: The Kürdili Hicazkar makam carries a melancholic and emotional atmosphere. Kürdili Hicazkar Longa is a lively and energetic piece that highlights the rhythmic structure of this makam, offering an engaging experience for the audience. 4. Sultaniyegah Sirto: Sultaniyegah is a makam characterized by its grandeur and depth. The Sultaniyegah Sirto piece reflects the elegance and sophistication of traditional Turkish music, providing listeners with a journey through the rich history of Turkish musical heritage.
