Liszt's thrilling Mazeppa sets the stage with sweeping Romantic energy and virtuosic orchestral fireworks. Augusta Symphony's own Principal Timpanist Denis Petrunin takes the spotlight in Michael Daugherty's Raise the Roof, a dazzling concerto that turns the timpani into a heroic solo instrument - an exuberant celebration of rhythm, architecture, and imagination. The concert concludes with Prokofiev's majestic Symphony No. 5, a towering statement of human triumph written in the final months of World War II. Together, these works launch the 72nd season with a spirit of bold creativity and strength.
