Smalls Afternoon Jam Session Hosted By Andrew Kushnir

Andrew Kushnir / Drums William Hill III / Piano Myles Sloniker / Bass Montreal-born in 1989 and New York-based since 2015, Andrew Kushnir first fell in love with jazz via his father's extensive record collection. He began his formal drum studies at age 17 with drummers Jim Doxas and Michel Berthiume. Soon Andrew was on the Montreal jazz scene playing gigs and frequenting jam sessions. At Berklee College of Music in Boston, Andrew studied primarily under Jon Hazilla and Neal Smith, and he holds a master's degree in Jazz Studies from New York University. Andrew has hosted the Sunday Jazz Jam at Shrine World Music Venue in Harlem and the biweekly Wolfhound Jazz Series in Astoria, Queens. Leader of his own groups and sideman for many others, he enjoys playing and collaborating with the best musicians the city has to offer. Today, Andrew performs in venues around New York, including Arturo’s, Bar Next Door, City Winery, Cleopatra's Needle, Club Bonafide, Deum Jazz Bar, Giorgios of Gramercy, Mezzrow Jazz Club, Minton's, Pete's Candy Store, PIANOS, Rockwood Music Hall, Silvana, Smalls Jazz Club, Tomi Jazz, and more. His weekly Saturday-night jazz series at Standard Wormwood Distillery, in Sunset Park, is quickly becoming a Brooklyn jazz-scene favorite.
