Jelly Kelly / Desert Sharks / Wetsuit / LEONE — live event

Jelly Kelly / Desert Sharks / Wetsuit / LEONE

Desert Sharks: Brooklyn-based Desert Sharks are known for their heavy riffs, soaring vocals, and high-energy performances. Bandcamp has referred to their sound as “a shadowy co-mingling of forceful hooks and fuzzy guitars making [it] a proper gloom-punk affair.” On the heels of their highly praised 2019 debut LP Baby’s Gold Death Stadium — which received rave reviews from outlets like Brooklyn Vegan and Adhoc, with Vinyl District calling it “undeniably major” — Desert Sharks released their follow up EP, The Tower, on Substitute Scene Records in March of 2023. Full Time Aesthetic applauded The Tower calling it “the best work that Desert Sharks have put out to date,” noting that “it’s poised to be a breakthrough for them.” The Deli Magazine agreed, calling the EP “empowering thanks to the undeniable lifeforce of their playing.” Often compared to female-led heavy hitters such as Veruca Salt, L7, and Sleater-Kinney, Desert Sharks bring a unique sound with a doom-infused twist to the grunge-punk genre. Their powerful live shows are known to be energetic, urgent, and loud. “If you had closed your eyes for a moment, you might have been mistaken for being at a stadium rock show,” described Full Time Aesthetic. Desert Sharks toured the Midwest in summer 2023 and the south in October 2023 to play Fest in Gainesville, Florida. They plan on releasing new singles in early 2024. Wetsuit: Wetsuit is a Brooklyn-based indie rock band fronted by songwriter, vocalist, and guitarist Allison Becker, accompanied by guitarist Anders Nils, bassist Paul DeSilva, and drummer Tess Kramer. Wetsuit makes “delightfully wonky indie rock” (Post-Trash) that “screams good times and fond memories; past, present, and future all bottled tight, and wrapped up in a mop of curls and one hell of a powerful voice.” (Full Time Aesthetic) Their debut record, “Sugar, I’m Tired” (August 2023) is out now on Substitute Scene Records. Jelly Kelly: Jelly Kelly began life as a side project for Monogold frontman Keith Kelly, but quickly grew into its own beast. As a multimedia artist as well, the sound of Jelly Kelly uses a broad spectrum of different styles and genres making a combination of something foreign and familiar. Sort of like a best friend you’ve never met. The name comes from Keith’s childhood where local bullies at the bus stop would chant “Jelly Kelly” and other variations throughout the years. So this name is dedicated to those bullies, wherever they are!! With the presence of drummer Jared Apuzzo, double bass, roto toms and all – Nicolas Dube on guitar- The Jelly Kelly sound is rounded out creating an effect which is an effortless, cool, catchy blend of post-punky hook-ridden indie rock that doesn’t want to fit neatly in any genre. LEONE: Since their formation in 2021, queer-fronted alt rock group LEONE have been making waves within the Brooklyn music scene with their emotionally charged sound. Blending feelings of angst, lust, and grief, their distinct style has been gaining traction over the last two years. Their sophomore EP ‘GTFOH’ was just released.
