Thana Alexa’s forthcoming album (set for release in early 2027) isn’t simply a collection of duos -- it’s a series of intimate collaborations transformed by expansive, voice-driven production. Reimagining songs from The Beatles and Björk to Nina Simone and Stevie Wonder alongside a tour de force of artists like Bill Frisell, John Patitucci, Joel Ross, Antonio Sánchez, and more. Alexa uses the full sonic palette of her voice as an arranging tool. Every sound beyond each special guest’s instrument — beatbox and rhythmic layers, bass lines, harmonic beds, ambient textures, even nature-inspired sounds — is created exclusively with her voice, used like a synthesizer to shift color, texture, and tone to build a dense, textured world that gives these iconic songs an entirely new sonic identity. On stage, Alexa and a virtuosic ensemble of multi-instrumentalist singers recreate these vocally driven arrangements in real time, expanding every orchestrated nuance and harmony while maintaining the intimacy of the original duos. This performance offers a crossover of acoustic jazz and immersive electronic production and live looping. Thana is an electrifying performer, whose last solo release ONA received 2 Grammy nominations (Best Jazz Vocal Album & Best Improvised Solo for Regina Carter), while SONICA, her collaboration with Grammy-winning vocalist Nicole Zuraitis and renowned bassist Julia Adamy, received major acclaim as another independent release. She was recently awarded a prestigious grant from Creative Capital, for her subsequent project, RESONANCE – a song cycle that explores how music and sound frequencies have an impact on our physical, mental and collective health. “Each track brings a new lens to the female experience: from prophesies disbelieved, to resistance, to sexuality, to awareness of mother earth herself.” - Forbes "...a jazz singer with a global perspective..." - The New York Times "...Thana Alexa stood out, turning a style of scatting that’s become cliche into something entirely new, evocative, and exhilarating!" - Billboard
