LAIR (pronounced lah-eer, from the Indonesian word lahir, meaning “birth”) is a 6-piece psych-soul/funk outfit from Jatiwangi, West Java, Indonesia. Formed in 2018, their sound is bold, vivid, and unapologetically flamboyant — rooted in the traditional Panturan Tarling music of Java’s northern coast, and delivered with a raw, electrifying modern edge. A blend of psych grooves, soulful vocals, and funk-driven arrangements, LAIR channel the humid chaos, joy, and everyday poetry of life in the Pantura region. Part cultural tribute, part sonic rebellion, LAIR are as theatrical as they are grounded — bringing traditional art forms into contemporary conversation with grit, glitter, and groove.
