Join us after Anime NYC on Friday, August 21st for an evening of Final Fantasy & JRPG jazz music and an epic cosplay showcase! Featuring the six piece band, Midgar Messengers, which has opened for Button Masher and holds a monthly residency in Bushwick. Cosplay guests organized by Initialspeed.cos. Final Fantasy or related JRPGs cosplay encouraged, other than that just come and enjoy some good video game music! Midgar Messengers Bio:The Midgar Messengers are a NYC based ensemble reimagining JRPG music that raised a whole generation of gamers. Founded by multi-instrumentalist and arranger Jasper Shogo Dutz and trombonist Peter Lin, the group has made a home at Seventh Heaven in Bushwick, where they perform monthly residencies to a devoted crowd of JRPG fans. The name says it all: a nod to the iconic city from Final Fantasy VII, and a promise to carry its music somewhere new. The Midgar Messengers take the sweeping, emotionally dense scores of games like Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, Xenoblade, and Kingdom Hearts and rebuild them from the inside out. The results are arrangements that are reverent without being timid, and adventurous without losing what made the originals unforgettable. Together they've assembled a rotating cast of New York's finest players who share a fluency in both the jazz canon and the pixel-lit worlds that scored their childhoods. The group performs monthly at Seventh Heaven Bar & Karaoke in Bushwick and has opened for Button Masher at Mercury Lounge in NYC.
