Pit Pony — live event

“Strikingly original” - The Metro “Songs to be screamed in sweaty clubs” - UNCUT “F*cking brilliant” - Shaun Keaveny 27th November 2024 - Newcastle’s Pit Pony share their brand new single ‘Cut Open’ alongside news of an upcoming second album ‘Dead Stars’ released 7th February 2025 via Clue Records and EMI North. ‘Cut Open’ delves deep into the raw emotions of imposter syndrome, self-reflection, and the therapeutic power of creativity. Written as an outlet for those "bad days," the track explores the feeling of being exposed and vulnerable, while also highlighting the importance of pushing through the tough times. Frontperson Jackie shares "Cut Open' isn't a reflection of how I always feel, but I think most people experience days when everything just feels off. It's a reminder that we’re not alone in that. Music and creativity help me deal with it—it’s therapeutic. Once the song’s written, I can let those feelings go." The song's title and imagery also carry deeper meaning. Cut Open references the concept of Brighton Rock and the famous quote about people being like a stick of rock—stuck with an unchanging identity. But for Pit Pony, that idea is challenged. "We can change," says Jackie. "We’re not fixed. And while self-reflection can be painful, especially when it’s made public, it’s an important part of growth." Forming in Newcastle in 2017, identity and life experiences have formed the backbone of Pit Pony’s sound. Over the years they’ve toured extensively with the likes of IDLES, alongside standout performances at Long Division, Stockton Calling, Waves, The Last Train Home festivals & more. Continuously, they remain loyal to their roots sonically nodding towards regional titans Nadine Shah and The Futureheads. With the “ENGLISH ACCENT god damn it” reminder on PJ Harvey’s ‘Uh Huh Her’ in mind, Jackie Purver stays true to her accent. Citing the recent influences of Blue Weekend and Skinty Fia alongside the likes of Can and the soundtracks of Ennio Moriconne, mastering engineer Christian Wright (Wolf Alice, Fontaines D.C., Pigs x7) proves the perfect fit with Chris McManus (Blank Studios) heading up recording & production on ‘Dead Stars’. The album follows 2022’s debut ‘World To Me’ and last year’s double A- side single ‘Accidental Doom / Fuzzy’. To accompany the release of Cut Open and announcement of Dead Stars, Pit Pony also announces an April UK tour, headlining The Shacklewell Arms on 24th April 2025.
