Dark melodic sounds, synthesizers, lyrics about the undead, the occult and parallel universes. Urban Heat is poised to break nationally in 2024. Fusing dark 80s stylings with modern flourishes, Urban Heat formed in 2019 with multi-instrumentalist Jonathan Horstmann enlisting Kevin Naquin and Paxel Foley to form a live show based around his analog sound design. Undeniably danceable, with melodic synths layered over heavy hitting bass lines, Urban Heat’s high-energy live show offers a spark of hope for the future while wrapped in the malaise of the present and nostalgia of the past. Urban Heat has seen immense success in a short time, receiving recognition as “Best Band” by Austin Monthly Magazine, “Song of the Year” for “Have You Ever” at the 2023 Austin Music Awards, and frontman Horstmann hailed as having “star power more present than any Austin musician in recent history” by SPIN Magazine. Dancing Plague makes broodingly intense and emotional dark electronic music. Since the solo project’s inception in 2015, Dancing Plague has released four albums and four EPs, solidifying them in the world of darkwave and body music.
