Raised in a sleepy Idaho mountain town, he had spells in Los Angeles (where two of his songs on FX crime drama Sons of Anarchy first brought him global attention) and Nashville before a stint as guitarist for alt-country luminaries Reckless Kelly brought him to Austin, where the scene and sound have seeped into his solo work. His travels have embroidered his songwriting, rooted in the likes of Tom Petty and Jackson Browne, with influences including Todd Snider, Steve Earle, Rodney Crowell, and Robert Earl Keen.
