Folkus // Tiwa Bleu // Prairie Roots — live event

Prairie Roots is a Chicago-based band with a nostalgic, pared-down sound and a firm grounding in the prima materia of American music: rhythm and blues. Featuring bassist Arlo Wohlgenant, guitarist Jack Rosa, and percussionist Andrés Bautista. Gustavo Flores (Tiwa Bleu) is a jazz artist, bandleader, and producer from the Chicago suburbs. Initially rooted in big band, marching, and orchestral drumming, Tiwa Bleu soon embraced a vision involving Afro-Latin, Spiritual Jazz, and sounds of Italian Film Library music. Folkus weaves together a unique and energetic mixture of original and folk music, with an emphasis on improvisation, melody, and interaction. Drawing from a wide range of influences, they freely embrace different musical traditions beyond the confines of jazz. Featuring Andy Danstrom on drums, Owen Frankel on bass, Gabe Heinemann on saxophone, and Solomon Lindenberg on piano, each member brings a different musical perspective that creates a collaborative band sound.
