Fluent in many of his native Brazil's musical styles, drummer Vanderlei Pereira's choice for his band's name – Blindfold Test – conveys the positive attitude of a gifted musician who lost his sight as a youngster. In concert, his bandmates occasionally do blindfolds when performing, helping draw a personal connection to the way their leader experiences music. But, as Downbeat noted, this band plays so well, that warm gesture is not necessary to win over audiences.
