Los Rock Angels, Las Chorizeras, DJ Edgar Las Chorizeras, is an all-Female ensemble founded by singer songwriter Nancy Sanchez. Las Chorizeras present Nancy’s original songs and select songs from the American and Mexican songbooks in a fresh new Regional Alternative and Regional Mexican way. They incorporate traditional mariachi instruments, including the guitarron, the vihuela and the violin, into a mariachi fusion style. The idea of putting together an all-female ensemble came about on a trip Nancy took to her hometown of Toluca, Mexico. Nancy was inspired by Toluca’s beautiful sites and traditions, including the city’s great gastronomy. Los Rock Angels, is an American band based in Los Angeles California, that was Co-founded by Louie Mendez in 1987. Their sound is centered around the “Accordion. Combined with the Rubboard an instrument that is popular in the Cajun and Zydeco genre, and the Bajo Sexto, which compliments the accordion in the Norteno, and Conjunto Tejano genre’s. These unique instruments help give the East Los Angeles Chicano group, a down home Rootsy sound. Los Rock Angels play a danceable blend of Tex-Mex - the accordion-based music of Southern Texas and Northern Mexico, and Zydeco - the accordion and Rubboard based music of Southwestern Louisiana, mixed with a generous dose of Jump Blues and Rock & Roll. Los Rock Angels have toured throughout the U.S. including a tour for U.S. Military, at Naval, Marine, and Air Force bases in Japan for AKA Productions. The group has filmed national television commercials for Taco Bell, and Miller High Life Beer. They also recorded the soundtrack for the Miller ad. They were featured in the Touchstone Pictures film, Double Take starring Orlando Jones, Eddie Griffin, and Garcelle Beauvais. They also went into the studio and recorded two songs for that film. One of Toluca’s most notable traditions is their famous chorizo recipes. In fact, many consider Toluca’s Chorizo the best in all of Mexico, and as an affectionate nickname people from Toluca are called “Chorizeras and Chorizeros”. Inspired by this fact, Nancy decided to name this project Las Chorizeras as a tribute to her hometown of Toluca Mexico.
