A Charlie Brown Christmas with The Alex Murphy Trio

SOLD OUT The Charlie Brown Christmas Special is an American cultural icon, and is synonymous with the holiday season. The music, characters, and message have resonated since its airing in 1965. This soundtrack is praised due to the scoring and playing of the fantastic jazz pianist Vince Guaraldi. Without Vince’s touch we wouldn’t have this American classic. Join the Alex Murphy Trio for an evening enjoying their arrangements of the Charlie Brown Christmas Special soundtrack played live with a few special guests including saxophonist Julian Lee and vocalist Gabrielle Cavassa! Julian Lee - Saxophone Gabrielle Cavassa - Vocals Alex Murphy - Piano and keyboard Lex Warshawsky - Bass Christian Kyle Burgs - Drums and Cymbals Julian Lee is quickly establishing himself as one of the most versatile saxophonists of his generation. He is the recipient of the 2017 Lincoln Center Emerging Artist Award from Jazz At Lincoln Center, and has performed both internationally and nationally with a wide array of critically acclaimed artists, including Wynton Marsalis, Christian McBride, The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, and Jon Batiste. Julian completed his undergraduate studies at the Juilliard School, where he had the honor of studying with master saxophonist Joe Temperley. You can hear Julian with the Jazz At Lincoln Center Orchestra on their recording of Duke Ellington’s Black, Brown, and Beige, along with Isaiah Thompson’s newest release, The Power of the Spirit. Gabrielle Cavassa, a California-born vocalist-composer of Italian descent, now based in New Orleans, has emerged as a rising star in the music world. Her unique voice and intimate expression have garnered widespread recognition, including being crowned co-winner of the prestigious 2021 International Sarah Vaughan Jazz Vocal Competition. Cavassa's early love for music started when she began collecting and ""obsessively listening"" to records at a young age. Her expression reflects a wide range of influences, including the likes of Billie Holiday, Phyllis Hyman, Ornella Vanoni, and Jeff Buckley. Her songwriting confronts challenging topics with a raw and honest approach, as though she's sharing stark, intimate diary entries with the world. Her 2020 critically acclaimed recording debut, co-produced by GRAMMY-nominated artist and collaborator Jamison Ross, features fellow genre-bending artists such as Braxton Cook and Ashlin Parker.
