Improvisational Hand Quilting with Daliah Silver — live event

Improvisational Hand Quilting with Daliah Silver

Learn the foundation of hand quilting through constructing a non-traditional medallion quilt. Over six classes, participants will build skills such as colour theory, composition and texture, applique, and hand quilting as they each design a quilt top that reflects their own personal narrative. This hands-on machine-free course is open to all skill levels – no matter your sewing experience, you will leave with a one-of-a-kind quilt! Materials required: Each participant will need to provide a sheet or large cloth to serve as the base of their quilt top (cotton is best). Students are welcome to bring in fabric of personal significance as well as scraps to incorporate into their quilts or share. Specific class sessions include: May 25, 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM June 8, 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM June 22, 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM July 13, 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM July 27, 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM August 10, 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Daliah Silver is a textile artist, currently based in Chicago. She loves tearing up second hand materials and sewing them back together, using both modern and traditional techniques in stitching to add colour, movement, and depth to her work. Her more recent work explores the world of natural dyes, and how text in quilts can add multiple dimensions, drawing the viewer in to not only the work but the meaning it evokes.
