Zopa — live event

NYC-based rock trio ZOPA is back with a new track and accompanying video, “A Still Life.” The release marks the band’s first output since their Feb 2022 single “Red Sky” and is the first single to drop in advance of their forthcoming second full length, Diamond Vehicle, set for February 21, 2025. ZOPA’s members, drummer Olmo Tighe, bassist/multi-instrumentalist Elijah Amitin, and guitarist/lead vocalist Michael Imperioli have been playing music together since February of 2006, and have known each other practically all of their (semi)adult lives. “Zopa” means “Patience” in Tibetan, and is also the middle word of Michael’s Buddhist name: Konchog Zopa Sonam. ZOPA enlisted beloved producer John Agnello to see Diamond Vehicle through its process. In addition to the aforementioned track, the album finds the band covering Lou Reed’s “Ocean” and “Heroin” tapping into a collective nostalgic past, and echoing the transcendent spaces of New York punk rock n’ roll. Relying on analog technology and minimal overdubbing for their production, their vintage sound takes center stage in live performance and recordings. Under the influences of Dinosaur Jr, The Smiths, My Bloody Valentine, The Replacements, Joy Division, Galaxy 500 and The Violent Femmes, ZOPA becomes timeless, ageless even, evoking the CBGB era with a beat generation grit to an inter-generational audience.
