A master of rhythm and rhyme, Tippa’s career began in the early 1980s as part of Brixton’s Saxon Sound System, the groundbreaking collective that redefined the UK reggae scene and introduced the fast-chat MC style to a global audience. Saxon Sound was more than a sound system. It was a cultural landmark that produced some of the most influential British MCs and singers of a generation. Tippa’s sharp delivery and unmistakable vocal style quickly made him one of its brightest stars. In 1986, his single “Hello Darling” became a UK Top 30 hit, marking a breakthrough moment for British-born reggae artists on the charts. Tippa’s influence extends far beyond reggae circles. His lyrical skill and playful but conscious songwriting caught the attention of global stars, leading to collaborations with The Black Eyed Peas on their worldwide hit
