Just like the South — word to Three Stacks — R&B music has always had something to say. About love. About heartbreak. And certainly about the state of the world. That’s why, during a pivotal time in our country’s history, The R&B Club’s next event celebrates our presence in protest music. Think “Strange Fruit.” Think “Mississippi Goddamn.” Think “People Get Ready.” Think “Say It Loud.” Think “You Haven’t Done Nothin’.” Think Marvin Gaye’s entire What’s Going On album. From before even the Civil Rights Movement to the present day, we’re taking you on a voyage of how the fight for liberation and justice have always been harmonized. You know the deal. Meet us at Songbyrd on Sunday, October 11, from 12-2. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Just weeks before an election that could (once again) determine the direction of all our futures, let’s retrace the past and understand why this moment is so critical. \*\*\* The R&B Club is a cultural gathering founded in 2018 that discusses the influence of R&B music.
