Kanklés In New York — live event
The only kanklės player in the USA, Simona Smirnova is presenting this Lithuanian traditional instrument to New York audiences. Usually used in folk music, Simona brings a whole new sound to the Lithuanian kanklės. Pop, electronic and jazz styles are mixed with Simona’s “sultry, signature vocals” (All About Jazz) and virtuosic performance by her bandmates. Described by the press as “Eastern European jazz - tinged exotica”, Simona’s act is what New York culture is all about; mixing tradition with a modern and spicy twist.
