The Dover Quartet adds to its reputation for collaborations that highlight the unique artistry of both the ensemble and today’s leading soloists. They open the program with the shimmering, single-movement La oración del torero (“The Bullfighter’s Prayer”). Sublime pianist Leif Ove Andsnes then joins the ensemble in the great Hungarian composer Ernő Dohnányi’s Second Piano Quintet—which has never before been performed on this stage—as well as Brahms’s Piano Quintet, one of chamber music’s most beloved and thrilling pieces.
