Renowned Twin Cities jazz ensemble the Larry McDonough Quintet pays tribute to the music of Miles Davis, performing selections from the Grammy-winning soundtrack to the 2015 film, Miles Ahead. Following the performance, take in a screening of the acclaimed biographical drama, directed by and starring Oscar nominee Don Cheadle(as Miles Davis) in his feature directorial debut. Also starring Emayatzy Corinealdi and Ewan McGregor, Miles Ahead is a wildly entertaining exploration of one of 20th-century music’s creative geniuses, interpreting the life and compositions of the jazz great, recipient of eight Grammy Awards and 32 nominations. The film gets its title from Davis’ 1957 album and the score covers several of Davis’ actual recordings throughout his prolific career, including Kind of Blue (1959), Someday My Prince Will Come (1961), Bitches Brew (1970), Agharta (1975), and We Want Miles (1981), among others.
