Sxip Shirey’s Hour of Charm — live event
Fresh off a winter run in Australia with the award winning contemporary circus production LIMBO, Sxip Shirey curates a night of CHARM: compelling story-telling, circus arts, mind-bending sounds, beautiful songs and sexy-janky beats. Shirey tests the edge of music using his vast imagination to create playful and mischievous songs using familiar objects, mutant instruments, electronics and reconfigured sounds. He is a curious combination of composer/ sound designer/ performer meets storyteller/ curator. Every Sxip’s Hour of Charm is an explosion of original ideas and energizing music that will have you out of your seat and dancing by the end of the show. The evening features composer and tuned-wine glass player Jonny Rogers aka Cedar Talk, the brilliant poet/writer Sophie Strand, circus artist Ryan Shinji (Cirque Du Soleil), guitar and electronics wizard Asher Kurtz, the haunting vocals of Virginia’s Aimee Curl, dancer Coco Karol and A SPECIAL SECRET GUEST (one of Sxip’s musical heroes). Also joining will be the JANK Band with the sexy soaring vocals of Xavier, John Altieri on sousaphone (Red Baraat, David Byrne & Saint Vincent), Attis Clopton on drums (Rhiannon Giddens, Eli “Paperboy” Reed, LIMBO), and Andrew McGovern on trumpet (Antibalas, LIMBO).
