They reached a defining milestone at the 2019 GRAMMY Awards, taking home Best Regional Roots Album for their sophomore release, Good Time. The album—which also topped the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Chart—is a masterful blend of generations-old Sea Island songs and original compositions rooted in the West African traditions of the Southeastern United States. Ranky Tanky (a Gullah phrase for “get funky”) are five lifelong friends from Charleston, South Carolina, who have established themselves as passionate global ambassadors for their local culture.
