About "Majarete" Sound Machine: Majarete Sound Machine is a New York–based collaborative project led by Venezuelan artist Rainer “Raifunky” Díaz, representing a fresh wave of Latin American acid jazz. Blending funk, disco, and soul with Latin rhythmic traditions, the band creates a vibrant, groove-driven sound inspired by the musical aesthetics of the 1970s. Their latest album, Caracas en un viaje, marks a new chapter for the project, paying homage to the cultural energy of Caracas while reflecting its evolution within the diaspora. Featuring a wide network of Venezuelan collaborators, the project embodies a collective approach to music-making. The name “Majarete” evokes the traditional Venezuelan dessert made from diverse ingredients, serving as a metaphor for the band’s sonic identity—a rich fusion of styles, textures, and influences. Through this approach, Majarete Sound Machine crafts an immersive musical experience that is both nostalgic and forward-looking. About Rainer “Raifunky” Díaz: Rainer “Raifunky” Díaz is a Venezuelan composer, producer, and bandleader whose work bridges Latin American musical traditions with contemporary global sounds. As a multidisciplinary artist based in New York City, he has developed a distinctive voice rooted in acid jazz, funk, disco, and soul, infused with the rhythmic sensibility of the Caribbean. With a vision centered on collaboration and cultural dialogue, Rainer has created projects that explore music as a living, evolving language shaped by migration and community. His work reflects a deep commitment to experimentation while honoring the traditions that inform his sound, positioning him as a dynamic force within the Latin alternative and global fusion scene.
