Matthew Hartnett is an award winning trombonist and horn arranger for Ms. Lauryn Hill, Dave Chapelle's Juke Joint, Cheryl Pepsii Riley, Talib Kweli and more. He is also the founder and band leader of The Gumbo Jam. The Gumbo Jam was born in New York in 2015 with the intention of being a training ground for musicians to share, explore and learn. As Matthew Hartnett released a solo album Southern Comfort, the band began to evolve into The Gumbo Allstars and toured internationally with Hartnett. Since touring as a band, Matthew Hartnett & The Gumbo All-Stars also goes by "The Gumbo Jam". Naming itself after the jam sessions started by Matthew that started the whole journey. Musically The Gumbo Jam's orgins are in jazz, but adds modern styles such as Hip-Hop & RnB. This Urban Contemporary fussion sound is now what the band leans into heavily. Elaborate solos, poetry and singing all flavor the pot of this amazing musical gumbo.
