Duke Ellington performed by Hugo Jennings — live event

Pianist Hugo Jennings will be presenting a concert at Morocco Bound Bookshop on Saturday 16th August focusing on the duo record "This One's for Blanton!", recorded by Duke Elllington and Ray Brown in 1972 and released in 1973. Jimmie Blanton was one of the most influential bassists of the 1930s and early 40s, for his innovative solo and walking bass lines, sense of swing, and his important contribution to the Duke Ellington Orchestra. Despite only living to the age of 23, his groundbreaking playing contributed to the next few decades of the development of jazz; in particular, he inspired many bass players of the early bebop era. He and Ellington made the first ever piano-duo bass recordings in 1939, and this combo will be revisited at Morocco Bound by celebrating the tribute album that Ellington recorded in Blanton's memory, alongside the great Ray Brown; one of the most in-demand bassists of the 20th Century, famed for his extensive work with Ella Fitzgerald.
