East Meets West: Harmony Across Cultures — live event on Mar 7, 2027
Orchestra Toronto live at Meridian Arts Centre: George Weston, Toronto on Sun, Mar 7, 3:00 PM. Free entry. Lineup, start time and tickets on Ckord.
Orchestra Toronto explores the meeting of tradition and innovation, featuring Amely Zhou on erhu and Razak Pirani on tabla. The concert opens with Reena Esmail?s Testament (from Vishwas), a work that blends Indian classical sensibilities with Western orchestral textures, exploring themes of memory, identity, and faith. Canadian composer Kevin Lau?s Between the Earth and Forever follows, a reflective and expansive piece that draws listeners into its meditative landscapes and delicate harmonies. The program concludes with Shostakovich?s Symphony No. 5 in D Minor, a masterwork of tension and resilience, whose dramatic contrasts and haunting motifs reflect the composer?s struggles under Soviet censorship while remaining a testament to human endurance and expressive power.
