Proyecto Uno/Milly Quezada/DJ Miguelito & Excarlet Molina — live event

Proyecto Uno/Milly Quezada/DJ Miguelito & Excarlet Molina

The Dominican Republic takes over Central Park for a throwback party showcasing different styles of merengue. Proyecto Uno formed as a traditional group on the east side of Manhattan in the late ’80s, but soon started collaborating with American freestyle vocalists such as Johnny Salgado and Erik Morales, blending the genre with techno, dancehall, reggae, and hip-hop and scoring a hit in ‘93 with “El Tiburón.” They’re joined by Milly Quezada, a.k.a. the “Queen of Merengue,” a four-time Latin GRAMMY winner who has been moving bodies on the dancefloor since the ’70s with her family group Los Vecinos and later as a solo artist, even branching out into bachatas.
