Carmen Quill • Panther Hollow • The Cradle — live event

$12 suggested donation Carmen Quill (formerly Carmen Q. Rothwell) is a double bassist, composer, singer and interdisciplinary artist based in Brooklyn, NY. She is recognized for her sound and versatility on the double bass, her captivating performances as a solo artist, and her intuitive sensitivity as an improviser. Her debut solo recording, Don’t Get Comfy / Nowhere (2020), “thrives on the meeting of reservation and vulnerability, and its songs feel as emotional and virtuosic as a power ballad yet are sparse and withholding as a Rembrandt” (Pitchfork). The Cradle is the music of Paco Cathcart. They started putting out tapes under the name in 2013 and have had multiple releases per year since then- over 40 so far, and counting, and have toured extensively around the U.S. solo and with accompaniment. Begun as a recording experiment with a 4-track cassette machine, The Cradle has since evolved to encompass Cathcart's interests in poetry, storytelling and pop songwriting, weird analog sounds, "performance", electroacoustic rocking, rhythm and dance, improvisation and collaboration. Cathcart still lives in their hometown of Brooklyn, where they remain a fixture in the underground music scene.
