Music + Revolution Finals — live event

DescriptionRichard Barone's MUSIC + REVOLUTION students from the School of Jazz & Contemporary Music at The New School will take the historic Bitter End stage to perform songs from the songwriters they have studied — legends who shook the world with their words and music in the 1960s and created one of the most important musical movements in American history. In the 1960s, a new wave of Greenwich Village songwriters and performers, inspired by the folk music revival, jazz, and Beat poetry, created socially aware and deeply personal music that spoke to a generation like never before. These artists—Bob Dylan, Janis Ian, and Phil Ochs to name a few—changed popular music forever. Before long, the Blues Project and Jimi Hendrix turned things psychedelic and continued to inspire new sounds. The Bitter End venue itself played a major part in this musical revolution.Students will perform their own interpretations and unique arrangements of these monumental songs in this very special performance.
