Mario Wellmann Trio | "Ecos del Sur" | South American Jazz | First Set Presented by Acoustic Memories Location: Terraza 7 Date: Tuesday, August 18, 2026 Time: 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM (First Set) Admission: $20: Cover at Mezzanine. Featuring: Mario Wellmann | Guitar Guillermo López | Bass Daniel Dufour | Drums About Mario Wellmann Trio | "Ecos del Sur": Ecos del Sur ("Echoes of the South") is a suite of five original compositions named after places in southern Chile, connected by solo guitar interludes. The music draws on extended harmony, open form, and a rhythmic sensibility rooted in South American traditions — lyrical and melodic at its core, but harmonically adventurous and alive in the moment. For the Terraza 7 show, the trio will perform the full album alongside standards and other originals, bringing together the intimacy of the guitar trio format with the depth of music that has been years in the making. About Mario Wellmann: Mario Wellmann is a Chilean jazz guitarist and composer based in New York City and Austin, Texas. A PhD Fellow in Music Theory at Columbia University and a graduate of the jazz program at the University of North Texas, he has performed across the Americas and Europe at venues including The Django and Jazz Forum Arts in New York, the Elkhart Jazz Festival, Sala Master at Radio Universidad de Chile, and Thelonious Lugar de Jazz in Santiago. He received two DownBeat Student Music Awards in 2022, among the most competitive honors in jazz education. In 2026, Wellmann was awarded the Fondo de la Música, Chile's equivalent of the National Endowment for the Arts, to record his debut album as a leader, Ecos del Sur, at Greyfade Studio in New York City with Grammy-winning engineer Joseph Branciforte, whose credits include Julian Lage, Kurt Rosenwinkel, and Ben Monder. The album takes its name from the landscapes of Chile's central south: five compositions named after cities and towns in the region, connected by solo guitar interludes inspired by the roads that wind through its forests, music born from the memory of long car rides and the particular silence of that part of the world. This show at Terraza 7 is part of a pre-recording tour ahead of the August studio sessions, presented with the support of the Chilean Consulate General in New York and the Chilean Embassy in Washington, D.C..
