They/Live Record Release, Midnight Prisms, Paer — live event

They/Live Record Release, Midnight Prisms, Paer They/Live is the project of Whitney Mower, an ex-Mormon musician, academic, and writer. Her second album, Nature & Structure arrives Feb 7 2025 via Born Losers Records. Co-produced by Neil Wogensen (Valley Queen, Ogreta), we revisit Mower’s signature sound: emotionally sophisticated pop which investigates matters of the heart using intricate, yet austere arrangements. But here we feel Mower searching for more provocative means to express her thoughts on relationships, addiction, and late-stage capitalism—fusing 12 string guitars, acoustic piano, and other analog sounds with harder-edged electronic grooves to accompany her haunting soprano vocals and lush layers of harmony. Deepening her multi-instrumentalism and musical experimentation, we witness Mower hone in on a unique and contemporary, surreal kind of pop within the songs of Nature & Structure. Mower wants to know how to preserve love and compassion in a dystopia. She wants to know how we reconcile our human lives under an oligarchical empire in decline. Above all, Mower wants to know how far the pop song can take us as a device for evaluating existence and feeling alive in our skin. “Why is it so easy to pretend I’m smiling?” she asks in “Teeth Show” then answers: “I’m American”. LA-born and bonded pair Alex Stills and Anina Denove are excited to introduce their new indie-pop outfit, paer. The duo is powered by a unique vocal blend, heart-led, boundary pushing arrangements, and sonic grey areas between beautiful and messy, terrifying and freeing. This project is the culmination of years of collaboration that can be heard in its confident play with sound and structure as they tackle themes of loss and grief, upheavals and transformation. Their debut single, Temperate Danger, coming in 2025, is an enthralling ode to our inner-saboteurs, who tend to emerge when "garden's are green." Driven by dreamy, haunting vocals and a melody that keeps listeners on the edge, Temperate Danger, opens a portal into paer's world and what's to come. Alicia Beck aka Midnight Prisms is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist hailing from Los Angeles, Ca. Beck’s work is influenced by an eclectic array of artists, primarily from the 1980’s. Drawing inspiration from the dreamy sounds of that era, her work is composed by using a variety of home keyboards, and analog synths.
