BROOKLYN MAQAM presents: QURB - THE MUSIC OF ANOUAR BRAHEM

Brooklyn Maqam is an organization dedicated to presenting Middle Eastern (in particular, Arabic) music, with the goals of expanding its audience, preserving it as an art form, and building community centered around the music. THIS MONTH: Qurb - The Music of Anouar Brahem The music of Tunisian composer and oudist Anouar Brahem is poetic, often wistfully meditative yet sparkling with energy. Surprisingly, his music is rarely performed by others, aside from a couple of his most well-known compositions. Qurb is an ensemble formed to explore his wide repertoire of compositions that are seldom heard, with musicians who all share his love of both traditional Arabic music and the expressive potential of jazz. Featuring: Brian Prunka — oud Gideon Forbes — saxophone, clarinet, nay John Murchison — bass Alber Baseel — percussion 7pm to 9:30pm $20 Tickets Pay now online now or in person that night Tickets do not guarantee seating.
