AURORA NEALAND's MONOCLE — live event

AURORA NEALAND'S SOLO MONOCLE PROJECT The Monocle is Aurora Nealand’s solo project and song-based performance vehicle rooted in stories from decades of co-living between New Orleans, New York City, and the the back of her car. The songs address the age-old tropes of falling in love with furniture, and attempting the improbable suspension of bureaucracy, watching anarchist bookshops turn into condos, and feelings feelings feelings.... if just for a moment. Less loftily put, it is a collection of vernacularly-sacred songs of our times and performance pieces based in the sound world of the poor-mans-organ (the accordion), the story-box (the voice), and time (the drums) New Orleans-based Aurora Nealand is an established bandleader, composer, performer and improviser. She is a frequent Barbès visitor where she has appeared in wide variety of contexts - from her acclaimed trad band band The Royal Roses to collaborations with Tim Berne and BIll Frisell. 8pm $20 suggested
