CONRAD HERWIG "THE LATIN SIDE OF MCCOY TYNER" ALBUM RELEASE

Mike DiRubbo and Conrad Herwig live at The Django, New York on Wed, Jun 12, 7:30 PM. Tickets from $35. Lineup, start time and tickets on Ckord.

New York jazz artist Conrad Herwig has recorded almost 30 albums as a leader, receiving four GRAMMY®-nominations for his own projects. His latest recording is The Latin Side of McCoy Tyner, to be released on Savant Records on May 24, 2024. This album marks 27+ years of the "Latin Side . . ." series, and is the follow-up to The Latin Side of Mingus (Savant, 2022). Herwig has a long history of participating in cultural exchange and musical cross-pollination, and The Latin Side Of . . . series is the work of a musically bilingual artist, a master trombonist who grew up under the influence of Trummy Young, Generoso Jiménez, and Barry Rogers; a player who learned his jazz trade with the best of the best, including Clark Terry, Buddy Rich, and Joe Henderson, but also played cumbia and Tejano on a Texas stage behind chicken wire. Years later, in New York City, he continued his education on the bandstand with legends such as Mario Bauza, Eddie Palmieri, Tito Puente, Paquito D’Rivera, Michel Camilo, and Victor Paz, among many others. After "a thousand gigs in the Bronx," he recalls with obvious pride, Palmieri awarded him with his "salsa badge." The kid from Hawaii had become an Afro-Cuban music-made man.
