World Atlas — live event

with My Favorite Mahogany Brooklyn’s World Atlas is a 7-member Orchestral Indie-Pop band whose musical style has had comparisons to early Belle & Sebastian, the lighter side of The Velvet Underground, as well as The Magnetic Fields and Donovan. In addition to traditional guitars, drums, bass and vocal harmonies, their instrumentation includes trumpet, vibraphone, melodica, harmonica, organ, tambourines & shakers. The band, whose first release was a self-titled EP on Magic Marker Records (2010), supported it by touring the U.K. and playing festivals including The NYC Popfest, Athens Popfest (GA), Stockton International Riverside Festival (UK), CMJ (NYC), the Northside Festival (BKLYN), and the US Open (NYC). Once called the John Hughes of music, World Atlas brings their orchestrated story-songs to the stage at Brooklyn Made, Friday 8/23. Joined by My Favorite (Brooklyn) the band will be debuting songs from their upcoming ‘Radio Amateurs’ EP, as well as playing selections from recent full-length album ‘Slow Love’ ands some oldies from their first EP. The band is excited to new introduce some new instruments to the line up as well: the tubular bells, timpani drums & a vibraphonette, and- will hopefully probably maybe feature a guest appearance by their elusive and occasional back-up singers, The Umbrella Girls.
